ABSTRACT

Auto-inhibited Ca2+-ATPase (ACA) is one of the Ca2+-ATPase subfamilies that plays an important role in maintaining Ca2+ concentration balance in plant cells. To explore the function and gene expression pattern of the RcACA gene family in castor, bioinformatics analysis was used to identify the members of the RcACA gene family in castor. The basic physical and chemical properties, subcellular location, protein secondary and tertiary structure, conserved domain, conserved motif, gene structure, chromosome location and collinear relationship, as well as the evolutionary characteristics and promoter cis-acting elements were predicted and analyzed. The expression pattern of the RcACA gene under abiotic stress was analyzed by expression (fragments per kilobase of exon model per million mapped fragments, FPKM) in castor transcriptome data. The results showed that 8 RcACA gene family members were identified in castor, acidic proteins located in the plasma membrane. In the secondary structure of all proteins, the α-helix and random coil is more; the RcACA genes were clustered into three categories, and the design of the genes in the same category was similar to the conserved motif. Both of them had four typical domains, RcACA3-RcACA8 had a Ca2+-ATPase N-terminal autoinhibitory domain. The RcACA gene is mostly located on the long arm of the chromosome and has 2 pairs of collinear relationships. There are more light response elements but fewer hormone-induced elements located upstream of the RcACA coding region. Interspecific clustering showed that the evolution of ACA genes among species was conservative. Tissue expression pattern analysis showed that RcACA genes showed apparent tissue expression specificity, and most of the genes showed the highest expression level in male flowers. Expression analysis under abiotic stress showed that RcACA2-RcACA8 were up-regulated under high salt and drought stress, and RcACA1 was up-regulated at 0-24 h under low-temperature stress, indicating that RcACA genes positively responded to abiotic stresses. The above results provide a theoretical basis for exploring the role of the RcACA gene in castor growth, development and stress response.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the relationship between calf circumference and appendicular skeletal muscle mass (ASM) index, handgrip strength and gait speed in the elderly in Shanghai, and to explore the optimal cut-off point of calf circumference as a simple proxy marker of skeletal muscle mass, strength and function.Methods:A total of 2 294 participants were recruited from physical examination centers in Huadong Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University and 4 communities (954 males and 1 340 females) with an average age of (71.6±8.7) years. Appendicular skeletal muscle mass (ASM), Upper (UMM) and lower (LMM) limbs skeletal muscle mass were measured by bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). The ASM index (ASM/height 2) were calculated.Gait speed was measured.Muscle strength was measured by handgrip strength using an electronic hand dynamometer.Height, weight, right calf circumference and waist circumference were measured. Results:The age, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference and gait speed were not statistically different (all P>0.05) between both genders. Height, weight, ASM, ASM/height 2, UMM, LMM, handgrip strength, calf circumference were significantly higher in men than in women (all P<0.05). The calf circumference of the elderly with age ≥ 80 was significantly lower than that of the 70-79 age group and 60-69 age group ( P<0.05). The calf circumference of older women (age≥80) was significantly lower than that of the elderly women in the 70-79 age group and 60-69 age group ( P<0.05). Calf circumference was correlated negatively with age( P<0.01) and positively with ASM/height 2, height, weight, BMI, handgrip strength, UMM and LMM( P<0.01). There was no correlation between calf circumference and gait speed ( P>0.05). In the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC), the cut-off value of calf circumference for low muscle mass was 35.1 cm for male(specificity, 0.721; sensitivity, 0.803, ROC, 0.809) and 33.6 cm for female(specificity, 0.774; sensitivity, 0.778; ROC, 0.827). Conclusions:Calf circumference decreases with ageing in the elderly. The optimal cut-off value of calf circumference for low muscle mass is 35.1 cm for males and 33.6 cm for females. We should pay attention to the importance of calf circumference in evaluation and diagnosis of sarcopenia.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the main influencing factors for physical performance assessed by the short physical performance battery(SPPB)in the elderly in communities in Shanghai.Methods:A total of 500 elderly subjects from four communities in Shanghai who met the inclusion criteria with 165 males and 335 females aged 60-95 years(70.5±7.8)years were enrolled.A questionnaire was used to assess the general situation.International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form(IPAQ-SF)was used to assess physical activity(PA). The appendicular skeletal muscle mass(ASM)was measured by bioelectrical impedance analysis, and the relative skeletal muscle mass index(RSMI). The lower extremity muscle strength(quadriceps strength, QS)was measured by a hand-held dynamometer.Lower body muscle quality(LB-MQ) was ascertained by taking the ratio of strength to muscle mass for lower extremity.SPPB score was used to assess physical activity, including full tandem test, 4-meter walking speed test and five timed chair stands test.Results:The age, RSMI, ASM and quadriceps strength were higher, and the body fat content was lower in males than in females(all P<0.001). There were no significant differences in BMI, SPPB scores, LBMQ, and PA between males and females( P>0.05). Pearson correlation analysis showed that SPPB score was negatively correlated with age( r=-0.615, P<0.001)and body fat content( r=-0.103, P=0.022), but SPPB score was positively correlated with quadriceps strength( r=0.351, P<0.001), RSMI( r=0.134, P=0.003), LBMQ( r=0.268, P<0.001)and amount of PA( r=0.204, P<0.001), however, SPPB score had no relationship with gender( r=0.068, P=0.132). Conclusions:Aging and frailty are the main factors for the decline of physical performance in the elderly.Participating physical activity, reducing body fat, maintaining muscle mass, and especially increasing muscle quality, may be the main interventions to prevent the further deterioration of physical performance in the elderly.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To examine epidemiology of self-injurious behavior and explore the association between self-injurious behavior and parental rearing styles, to provide the theoretical basis for the identification, prevention and occurrence of the self-injurious behaviors among adolescents.@*Methods@#Stratified cluster sampling was used to survey 3 683 students from three colleges in Wuhu and Huainan by using questionnaire response. Egna Minnen avBarn-dosnauppforstran(EMBU) and demographic characteristics were used by college students to assess their selfinjurious behavior and parental rearing styles.@*Results@#For college students, the detection rate of reporting of 1-2 self-injurious behavior was 30.4%, and the rate of reporting of 3 or more self-injurious behavior was 11.8%. In terms of the occurrences of self-injurious behavior, gender(χ2=76.98), classification of colleges and universities(χ2=153.71) and the relationship with father (χ2=47.48) and with mother (χ2=40.01) were markedly different(P<0.05). Correlation and regression analysis indicated that the risks leading to self-injurious behavior were involved in medical students, overprotection from father and preference from mother(OR=2.05, 95%CI=1.64-2.55; OR=1.13, 95%CI=1.06-1.20; OR=1.05, 95%CI=1.01-1.09).@*Conclusion@#Female students and medical students can be inclined to self-injurious behavior. Parental rearing styles were related to the self-injurious behaviors of college students. Strengthening interaction between students and parents, providing appropriate emotional warmth as well as encouraging the establishment of a good family atmosphere may reduce the occurrence of self-injurious behavior in current college students.

Objective@#To investigate the effects of micronutrient supplementation for the elderly on plasma homocysteine level and cognitive function in institutional older adults.@*Methods@#A total of 98 older adults with the score≤11 by mini nutritional assessment short-form aged 65-100 years were enrolled and assigned to either intervention group or control group (n=49 each), with either a package of micronutrient pack or placebo daily, for three months. Fasting blood samples were collected both at baseline and the end of study to detect serum vitamin B12, folate and plasma homocysteine (Hcy) concentrations. Global cognitive function was assessed using the mini-mental state examination (MMSE). The paired t test was used to compare the continuous variables between the two groups after intervention. The relationship between changes in MMSE score and changes in plasma Hcy concentrations was examined by least-squares linear regression.@*Results@#Eighty-two patients completed the study, and 17 patients withdrew from the study due to diarrhea and hospital discharge with the drop rate of 17.3%. Compared to the control group, concentrations of serum vitamin B12 (128.8±34.8 vs 13.3±16.0 pmol/L, P=0.003) and folate (21.1±1.6 vs 0.6±0.5 nmol/L, P<0.01) significantly increased in the intervention group over 3-month supplementation, while plasma Hcy levels were remarkably reduced (-5.3±0.7 vs 1.7±0.3 μmol/L, P<0.01). The incidences of deficiency of folate, deficiency of serum vitamin B12and high Hcy all decreased in intervention group. Although individual item scores in MMSE were not changed markedly, change of total MMSE score in intervention group were higher than that in the control group (1.2±3.0 vs -0.2±2.5, P<0.05).@*Conclusions@#The supplementation of the micronutrient pack in long-term care facilities can reduce the incidence of hyperhomocysteinemia, and improve the total MMSE score.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effect and mechanisms of β hydroxybutyrate (βOHB) regulation on p75NTR expression in Alzheimer's disease (AD) model cells.Methods First,cultured SH-SY5Y cells were exposed to Aβ (final concentrations:10,20,40,80 μmol/L) with or without 5 mmol/L βOHB pretreatment,and sham-treated cells were used as the control.At 24 h after treatment,the viability of cells was determined by the MTT assay.Secondly,cultured cells were divided into four groups.Cells in the Aβ group were exposed to Aβ (final concentration:20 μ mol/L)with or without 5 mmol/L βOHB pretreatment.Cells in the βOHB group were treated only with 5 mmol/L βOHB,and sham treated cells were used as the control.At 6 h and 24 h after treatment,the expression of p75NTR,HDAC1/2 mRNA and its protein expression,and p65 protein expression were measured by qRT-PCR or Western blot.Finally,the expression of p75NTR mRNA and protein was analyzed in cultured cells after silencing HDAC1 / 2 with siRNA.Results The viability of cells with 40 μmol/L or 80 μmol/L treatment was lower than that in the control group (P<0.01),and there was a significant increase (P<0.01) in cell viability of the βOHB intervention group,compared with the Aβ group.At 6 h or 24 h after treatment,the expression of p75NTR mRNA,its protein expression,and p65 protein expression were clearly increased in the βOHB group (P<0.05) and markedly decreased (P<0.01) in the Aβ group,compared with the control.Additionally,the expression of HDAC1 / 2 mRNA and protein was higher (P<0.01) in the Aβ group at 6h or 24h after treatment and lower(P<0.05 or P<0.01)in the βOHB group at 6 h after treatment than in the control group.Compared with the Aβ group,there were significant increases (P<0.01) observed in p75NTR mRNA,its protein expression,and p65 protein expression,and a notable decrease (P<0.05) in HDAC1 / 2 mRNA and protein expression in cells of the βOHB intervention group at 6 h and 24 h after treatment.The expression of p75NTR mRNA and protein increased in HDAC1 knock-down cells compared with the control (P<0.05).However,no difference was found in p75NTR expression in HDAC2 knock-down cells (P>0.05).Conclusions βOHB up-regulates p75NTR expression by inhibiting HDAC1 of βOHB.It also activates p65 and prevents the decrease of cell viability.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the relationship between calf circumference and skeletal muscle mass, strength and function in the elderly in Shanghai. Methods A total of 401 old people were recruited from physical examination centers in our hospital with the mean age of (71. 8±7. 4) years, including 202 males and 199 females. Adipose tissue, skeletal muscle mass (SMM) and appendicular skeletal muscle mass (ASM) were measured by bioelectrical impedance analysis. The ASM index ( ASM/height2) and SMM index ( SMM/height2) were calculated. Muscle function was measured by testing gait speed (m/s). Muscle strength was measured by handgrip strength (HGS) using an electronic hand dynamometer, with the dominant hand gripping for three times and taking the maximum value. Height, weight, right calf circumference and waist circumference were measured. Results Height, weight, ASM, ASM/height2, SMM, SMM/height2and HGS were significantly higher in men than in women ( P<0. 01); adipose tissue was significantly higher in women than in men (P<0. 05). The age, body mass index, calf circumference, waist circumference and gait speed were not statistically different (P=0. 426, P=0. 143, P=0. 425, P=0. 093, P=0. 143). There were linear correlations between calf circumference and height, weight, BMI, waist circumference, ASM, ASM/height2, adipose tissue, grip strength, SMM and SMM/height2( P=0. 001, P<0. 001, P<0. 001, P<0. 001, P<0. 001, P<0. 001, P<0. 001, P=0. 003, P<0. 001, P<0. 001). There was no linear correlation between calf circumference and pace and age (P=0. 818, P=0. 078). Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that height, BMI, ASM/height2and SMM were correlated with the calf circumference. Conclusions Skeletal muscle mass and strength are higher in men than in women, while adipose tissue is higher in women than in men. Skeletal musle mass is an important factor affecting the calf circumference. There is a linear correlation be-tween skeletal muscle strength and calf circumference.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the compliance of defecation function training of patients with ultra- low rectal cancer after intersphincteric resection and the influencing factors. And therefore to provide theoretical reference for the problems and nursing management of training. Methods The study was a reviewing trial. The enterostomal therapist educated patients with ultra-low rectal cancer after intersphincteric resection. Research used the basic information questionnaire, compliance evaluation of defecation function training, defecation diary and Fecal Incontinence Quality of Life Questionnaire as research instruments. And statistical analysis was used to acquired data. Results The score of the defecation function training compliance was (67.67 ± 5.28) points; Anal function and the fecal incontinence quality of life was in negative correlation with the compliance; At 9 and 12 months, anal function of patients who had good compliance were obviously improved (P < 0.05). Factors such as complications, internal sphincterotomy, operation, degree of education, pathologic stage, payment of medical expenses were related to the compliance (P < 0.05 or 0.01); The correlation analysis demonstrated that the compliance decreased with time. Conclusions The compliance of defecation function training of patients is related to anal function and the fecal incontinence quality of life. A effective training program and follow- up appointment is very important. Nurses should provide psychological counseling and health education for them to boost confidence improve quality of life.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the effects ofJingui Shenqi Pills on the expressions of TGF-β1, CYP19, sex hormone level and sperm quality;To discuss its mechanism for the treatment of male sterility.Methods Forty adult male SD rats were randomly divided into normal group, model group, retardant group andJingui Shenqi Pills group, 10 rats in each group. Except for the normal group, adenine was used to induce healthy rats to kidney yang deficiency and sterility model rats. Normal group was given normal saline for gavage;retardant group was injected with testicular mesenchyme TGF-β1;Jingui Shenqi Pills group was givenJingui Shenqi Decoction for gavage. Blood was taken through caudal vein. Immunohistochemical, radioimmunoassay and electron microscopy observation were used to detect the expressions of TGF-β1, CYP19, sex hormone level, sperm density and motility rate and testicular morphological changes.Results Compared with normal group, the expression of TGF-β1 in the model group increased and CYP19 decreased (P<0.05). Compared with model group, the expression of TGF-β1 decreased and the expression of CYP19 increased (P<0.05). Compared with normal group, the number of sperm quantity was small and paramorphia in model group (P<0.05). Compared with model group, T, E2, sperm density and motility rate increased significantly inJingui Shenqi Pills group and retardant group (P<0.05). There was no statistical significance among indexes in retardant group andJingui Shenqi Pills group.ConclusionJingui Shenqi Pills can improve sperm quality and sex hormone level of model rats with kidney-yang-deficiency, which mechanism is probably realized by inhibiting the expression of TGF-β1R and promoting the expression of CYP19 in testis to effect development and proliferation of sperm.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe the impact of plant sterol esters (PSE) mixed in low fat milk powder (2.5 g of PSE/day) on plasma cholesterol levels in hypercholesterolemic subjects during a 6-week intervention period.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>In this double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study, 59 subjects (19 males, mean age (60.28 ± 6.98) years) with primary hypercholesterolemia (fasting LDL cholesterol between 3.4-6.0 mmol/L) were randomly divided into two groups (treatment group, 2.5 g of plant sterol esters a day, n = 30) and placebo group (n = 29). Blood samples were collected at week 0, 3 and 6. The primary outcome was change in plasma LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C). Secondary outcomes were changes in total cholesterol (TC), HDL cholesterol (HDL-C), triglycerides (TG), anthropometry and blood biochemistry.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>LDL-C significantly reduction from baseline (4.18 ± 0.54) mmol/L to (3.44 ± 0.61) mmol/L (-17.7%, P < 0.05) at week 3 and (3.35 ± 0.39) mmol/L (-19.9%, P < 0.05) at week 6 in the treatment group, whereas in placebo group from (4.11 ± 0.54) mmol/L at baseline to (3.47 ± 0.60) mmol/L (-15.57%, P < 0.05) and (3.61 ± 0.39) mmol/L (-12.17%, P < 0.05) at week 3 and week 6, respectively. TC was reduced from (6.30 ± 0.86) mmol/L at baseline to (5.92 ± 0.75) mmol/L (-6.03%, P > 0.05) at week 3 and (5.43 ± 0.77) mmol/L (-13.8%, P < 0.05) at week 6 in treatment group, from (6.20 ± 0.76) mmol/L at week 0 to (5.70 ± 0.76) mmol/L (-8.06%, P < 0.05) at week 3 and (5.84 ± 0.75) mmol/L (-5.81%, P < 0.05) at week 6 in placebo group. PSE-enriched milk did not affect plasma HDL-C level and TG level at both week 3 and week 6. After normalization to the placebo group, the treatment group showed significant reduction in LDL-C and total cholesteron after 6 weeks. The observed difference of reduction was 7.69% (-0.33 mmol/L, P < 0.05) for LDL-C and 8.00% (-0.51 mmol/L, P < 0.05) for TC between the two groups. There were no significant changes in safety parameters, including blood biochemistry tests during the study period.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Plant sterol ester enriched milk powder is effective in reducing LDL-C among Chinese hypercholesterolemic subjects at a dosage recommended by EFSA.</p>

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To evaluate the effect of low-temperature coblation on subglottic hemangioma under endoscopy.@*METHOD@#Clinical data of 5 patients whom were diagnosed as subglottic hemangioma treated with low-temperature coblation under endoscopy were retrospectively studied. Two cases of the patients were treated after tracheotomy.@*RESULT@#Hemangioma vanished completely in the 5 patients. All patients were followed-up from 3-6 months,no recurrence was found, and the 2 cases were extubated successfully.@*CONCLUSION@#Endoscopic surgery u sing low-temperature coblation for subglottic hemangioma after tracheotomy can relief the airway obstruction quickly, shorten the nature course of hemangioma and the period of wearing trachea,also no complication such as subglottic stenosis which is thought to be a safe and effective therapy for large size hemangioma. While for small size hemangioma, endoscopic surgery using low-temperature coblation under good total anesthesia without tracheotomy combined is effective, less injure, and suitable. Endoscopic surgery using low-temperature coblation for subglottic hemangioma has following advantages such as simplicity, minimal invasion and so on. It is a viable surgical method for the treatment of subglottic hemangioma.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the clinical features and prognosis of sudden hearing loss in children, so that to guide clinical diagnosis and treatment.@*METHOD@#A retrospective review of medical records of 12 hospitalized children (21 ears) suffering from sudden hearing loss was conducted.@*RESULT@#The study comprised 8 males and 4 females with a mean age of 6.28 years old, among which 25% had a unilateral hearing loss and 75% exhibited bilateral hearing loss. The mean onset time was 5.42 days. Four children had tinnitus and 3 patients showed dizziness. For the possible etiology. 2 cases had mumps. 6 cases had definite upper respiratory infections history, one experienced trauma, and another one took ototoxic drugs. Five patients were proved to come down with the large vestibular aqua duct syndrome by the CT scan. Among the 21 ears. 7 ears were diagnosed severe hearing loss and 14 ears were diagnosed profound hearing loss. After the treatment of 7 days, 6 ears were cured, one car showed effective change. and 14 cars came out to be ineffective, with the total effective rate of 33.3%. After the 14 days' treatment, there was no improvement for 5 patients.@*CONCLUSION@#CT scan should he performed on all of the children with hearing loss to exclude the inner ear malformation. Most of the children with sudden hearing loss underwent some clear etiology, showing more severe hearing loss and had a poorer prognosis.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To compare the efficacy of sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) with standardized house dust mite extract in mono sensitized and polysensitized children with allergic rhinitis.@*METHOD@#One hundred and fifty-seven children who were sensitized to house dust mites and treated with SLIT for house dust mites for at least 1 year were studied. The monoallergen sensitized group included patients who were sensitized to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and/or Dermatophagoides farinae (n=92). The polyallergen sensitized group included patients who were simultaneously sensitized to house dust mites and other allergens (n = 65). A standardized extract of house dust mites was used for immunotherapy. Antiallergic medication and the total nasal symptom score (TNSS) were evaluated before and 1 year after SLIT.@*RESULT@#One hundred and twenty-five children completed 1-year SLIT. The TNSS improved significantly after SLIT in both groups, with monoallergen sensitized group 11.42 +/- 1.60 vs 3.55 +/- 1.57 (t=30.03, P0.05). The AMSs were decreased significantly after SLIT in both groups, with monoallergen sensitized group 1.62 +/- 0.44 vs 0.56 +/- 0.37 (t=15.01, P0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#In polysensitized allergic rhinitis patients, SLIT for D pteronyssinus and/or D farinae produced improvements in both nasal symptoms and rescue medication scores comparable to those in mono sensitized patients. SLIT for D pteronyssinus and/or D farinae should be considered in polysensitized allergic rhinitis patients.

OBJECTIVE@#To explore the inhaled allergen distribution of children with allergic rhinitis in Guangzhou area and to analyze the relevant factors.@*METHOD@#Six hundred and twenty-six cases children in Guangzhou region diagnosed with allergic rhinitis from January 2009 to December 2011 in our outpatient department were tested with skin prick test (SPT). Ten of standardized common inhaled allergens were analysed. The variety of allergens positive rate was calculated. And the gender, age, living environment,history of asthma, eczema, history and family history of clinical data were analyzed.@*RESULT@#The positive rate of SPT was 84.82% (531/626). The dust mites(76.36%) and the house dust mite(72.84%) have the highest positive rate, then the positive rate of the dog hair (11.98%), cat hair (7.03%) and Blattella germanica (4.31%) was degressively. The positive rate was significantly correlated with family history, history of eczema and asthma. The positive rate was correlated with the gender, independent of the living environment. The intensity of the test has no significant correlation with gender, and was significantly correlated with other factors. The positive rate of SPT has significant difference in ages and the highest positive rate of SPT was in the 10-14 age group, the SPT rate was 93.8%. Three groups have significant differences in the positive rate of mite, dog hair and cat hair.@*CONCLUSION@#The main inhaled allergen in children with allergic rhinitis in Guangzhou area tested by SPT was mite, dog hair and cat hair, respectively. The different ages, living environment, family history, history of eczema and allergic rhinitis children with asthma were related with the pathogenesis and development of AR in childhood. Our results have the contribution to early diagnosis and intervention of children with allergic rhinitis in Guangzhou area.

ABSTRACT

To study the effects of conjee and cooked rice on postprandial glucose and plasma insulin levels in type 2 diatetes,and to help diabetic patients select reasonably food.41 diabetes were divided into cooked rice group ( group A),conjee with steamed bread group ( group B),and oatmeal group ( group C ).At 1 h after meal,the values of postprandial plasma glucose (PPG) was significantly lower in group C than those in group A and group B [ ( 11.17± 2.30 vs 12.88 ± 1.29,13.29 ± 1.97 ) mmol/L,P < 0.05 ].At 2 h after meal,the value of PPG was significantly lower in group C than in group A [ ( 8.88 ± 2.66 vs 10.87 ± 1.63 ) mmol/L,P <0.05 ].At 1 h and 2 h after meal,there was no significant difference between the value of PPG in goup A and group B ( P>0.05 ).At 1 h after meal,the value of plasma insulin was significantly lower in group C than those in group B [ (46.02 ± 26.32 vs 88.56 ± 68.75 )μU/ml,P <0.05 ],and there was a littler higher in group B than group A ( P>0.05 ).At 2 h after meal,there was no statistical difference of plasma insulin among group A,B,C [ ( 57.10 ± 33.56,62.26 ± 24.42,54.16 ± 41.35 )μU/ml,P>0.05 ) ].Isocaloric oat food is potentially beneficial in sustaining blood glucose status and decreasing insulin secretion.It is the ideal choice for type 2 diabetes.Meanwhile,there were no statistical differences in PPG and insulin levels between the individuals taking conjee with steam bread and cooked rice.

ABSTRACT

A total of 127 type 2 diabetic patients were divided into low glycemic index meal replacements (intervention) group and standard food-based diet (reference) group in an experiment for 12 weeks.The results showed that fasting plasma glucose,postprandial 2 h plasma glucose,fasting insulin,and homeostasis model assessment insulin resistance(HOMA-IR) in the intervention group decreased significantly after 12 weeks trial ( P<0.05 or P<0.01 ).However,there were no significant changes in lipid profile and HbA1C in intervention group.In addition,percentage of body fatty,visceral fatty area,and waist-hip ratio also decreased in intervention group( all P<0.01 ).Superoxide dismutase and glutathione levels increased significantly in intervention group by the end of trial (both P<0.01 ),while malondialdehyde was decreased (P<0.01 ).There were no significant changes in the aforementioned indices in the reference group.Weight,body mass index,and waist circumferences were decreased in both groups,but without significant difference between the two groups.

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the expression and clinical significance of human nuclear distribution (hNudC) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).@*METHOD@#Immunohistochemical and western blot method were used to determine the expression of human nuclear distribution C in 80 cases of NPC and 30 cases of chronic inflammation of nasopharyngeal mucosa. The amounts of positive cells were analyzed . The relationship between the gene expression and clinic pathological features was analyzed too.@*RESULT@#The positive expression rate of human nuclear distribution C in NPC was 83.75%, which was higher than that in chronic inflammation of nasopharyngeal mucosa 23.33% (P < 0.05). The expression of human nuclear distribution C was positively correlated with the clinic pathological stages in NPC (P < 0.05), and positive expression rate of hNudC protein was increased with the progress of NPC clinical stage (P < 0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#Human nuclear distribution C is found to be closely associated with cell malignant hyperplasia. This protein is important indicators to predict the progression of patients.

ABSTRACT

The association of serum uric acid ( SUA ) and urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio ( ACR ) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus was explored. The ACR abnormal rate was higher in hyperuricemia group( P<0.01 ). ACR level was positively correlated with SUA( P<0.01 ). The general linear model showed that SUA was a risk factor in ACR. Patients with hyperuricemia and type 2 diabetes mellitus were apt to have abnormal ACR and develop early renal damage.

ABSTRACT

[Objective]This study was designed to discover the expression of histamine H4 receptor in allergic rhinitis(AR)and its clinical significance.[Methods]Seventy-three patients with allergic rhinitis and 30 volunteers were recruited in our study.Western blot and Real-time fluorescent quantification PCR were used to detect the protein and mRNA expression of H4R on peripheral blood monocytes(PBMC).To analyze the relationship between the H4R and allergic rhinitis,the level of serum interleukin 4(IL-4)and interleukin 12(IL-12)were determined by enzyme linked immunosorbnent assay(ELISA)in the AR group.[Results]The protein and mRNA expression of H4R in the AR group were significantly higher than that in the NAR group.Person correlation analysis revealed that H4R was positively correlated with IL-4(r=0.71,P<0.01)and negatively correlated with IL-12(r=-0.50,P<0.01).The expression of H4R also had positive relationship with IL-4/IL-12 ratio(r=0.75,P<0.01).[Conclusion]These results indicate that histamine H4 receptor is closely related with allergic rhinitis and is important in the pathogenesis of AR.The elevated expression of H4R in AR patients' PBMC may be closely correlated with Th1/Th2 balance.
